What can I do with my old EEE?

The WEEE Directive does not require by law that consumers dispose of electrical and electronic equipment in a certain way. However, the UK government strongly advises consumers to dispose of e-waste in an environmentally and socially responsible way, by separating it from ordinary household waste and arranging for it to be re-used or safely recycled.

Options for re-using working but unwanted EEE include:

Donating working equipment to charitable organisations who specialise in providing refurbished EEE to local low-income families (this option is available for white goods and kitchen equipment)

Donating working equipment to charitable organisations who specialise in providing refurbished EEE to developing countries (this option is available for mobile phones and some computer equipment)

Giving the equipment to someone who needs it

Options for recycling unwanted EEE include:

Selling the e-waste to a recycling specialist (this option is available for smaller items such as mobile phones and printer cartridges)

Returning the e-waste to the original retailer via their in-store take-back scheme

Taking the e-waste to a local authority run civic amenity site
